BBFC
What is BBFC?
BBFC is a company that produces ratings for films so that they can protect children and the public from films that may have harmful content. They recognise each individual’s choice of film and they make sure that the ratings can appeal to them and they respect their choices and make sure that there are films that can appeal to them. Their ratings are cost-effective as they help to show which film is suitable for each age group, which help children and the public to find a film that is suitable for them because of the ratings. BBFC helps other companies by telling them what rating their film will get based on the content that is in the film.
Hot Fuzz Rating:
Hot Fuzz is rated a 15 from BBFC because it contains strong language and it has strong comic bloody violence which makes it unsuitable for children that are younger than 15 because the violence is not suitable and they don’t want young children to see the movie due to all of the violence that is in the film. The reason why Hot fuzz is rated 15 is due to the scene of where one of the characters head gets squashed by an ornament that falls off of the church and this could traumatize young children if they see this that is why it is rated 15 due to that type of violence being shown through the movie. In the movie Hot Fuzz there is also some scene where strong language is used for example when Nicholas Angel is swearing at Danny Butterman because of his laziness.
Why are films rated 15?
Movies are rated 15 because they have: ” strong language, strong violence, portrays of sexual activity, strong verbal references to sex, sexual nudity, brief scenes of sexual violence or verbal references to sexual violence, discriminatory language or behaviour and drug taking “. This means that young children will not be able to see it if they are under the age of 15 because of the types of references that could happen in the film will not be suitable if young children have seen them. This could children under the age of 15 to think that this behaviour is good behaviour and they might go out and try it because they have seen it on TV or in a Film.
Trailers for rated 15 movies:
Films that are rated 15 their trailers do not show the violence or strong language that is in the in film as it will be shown online or on the TV so it will have to be suitable for younger children to see the trailers while they are being advertised during the day on the TV. But the trailers would advertise the age rating for the film and they will say it is not suitable for children due to the type of behaviour that is in the movie.
